Our Cows - Gaudham

Our Cows - Gaudham

Cows are among the most precious domestic animals, giving us milk, supporting farming, and enriching the environment. In India, they are worshipped as sacred mothers, symbols of love and divinity. The Gir cow is especially valued for its A2 milk, considered both complete food and natural medicine.

Our Gaudham is home to 108 Gir cows, each kept in a dedicated temple to promote gau-poojan by pilgrims. This unique setup makes Gaudham not just a shelter but a sacred place filled with devotion.

Here, cows are nurtured with love, natural shelters, open grazing, and Ayurvedic care. They also play a vital role in natural farming, as their dung and urine protect crops and enrich the soil. Farmers are trained here in cow-based sustainable farming methods.

The pure milk of our Gir cows is also used in the abhishek of Neelkanth Prabhu, and later shared with tribal children as prasad, spreading nourishment and blessings.

At Gaudham – Gir Gaushala, our cows are cherished as divine mothers and the heart of our traditions.

Gir Cows: The Heart of Bhagvat Prasadam

The Gir cow, native to southwest Gujarat, is one of India’s oldest and most respected indigenous breeds. Locally, it is also known as Bhodali, Desan, Gujarati, Kathiawari, and Surati.

These cows are unique in appearance, with their domed forehead, long pendulous ears, and gracefully curved horns. They are the only ultra-convex breed in the world, giving them a distinctive and majestic look.

Indian humped cows, including the Gir, have a special Suryaketu Nadi (vein) running through their hump. This vein is believed to absorb cosmic energy from the sun and moon, enriching their milk and ghee with natural strength.

The hump also helps store solar salts, which give Gir cow ghee its golden color and unique medicinal qualities. Their prominent dewlap (loose skin under the neck) boosts immunity, making their milk and ghee especially nourishing.

Every product derived from the Gir cow is considered a blessing—offering health, vitality, and natural immunity to all who consume it.

We Follow the Tradition of Dohan

At Bhagvat Prasadam, we believe that calves deserve the first and rightful share of their mother’s milk. Their nourishment and well-being always come before anything else.

We follow the ancient Bharatiya Vedic practice of ‘Dohan’, where the calf is allowed to freely drink from two teats until fully satisfied. Only the remaining two teats are used for collecting milk for human consumption.

This ensures that our cows are respected, our calves are healthy, and the milk we obtain is pure, ethical, and filled with natural goodness.

Nourishment of Our Cows

Our cows are provided with a well-balanced diet of fresh green grass and seasonal fodder. Their meals include corn, millets, mung grains, groundnut cake, and a variety of nutritious grasses.

To enhance their health, we also feed them cotton seeds, coconut, and corn along with ayurvedic nutritional supplements once or twice a week. These natural additions help in keeping the cows stronger and ensure the milk remains pure and wholesome.

Additionally, iodized salt and neem leaves are made available so the cows can consume them as per their need, supporting both their health and immunity.
